TikTok Music Stats

TikTok (formerly known as musical.ly) isn’t the new kid anymore when it comes to promoting your music, after all the short video sharing platform was founded in 2014.

However, since the pandemic it’s been having a bit of a moment, leading to it becoming one of the most important social media platforms to promote music on (more on that in our stats later).

TikTok has been expanding its features to bring more opportunities for artists, whether that’s paying royalties to artists in their music library, or adding ‘shop now’ buttons so artists can flog their merch to followers who’d love to show their support.

We’ve gathered together what we think are some of the most important TikTok stats; so if you weren’t convinced that TikTok is an essential part of your music marketing strategy before, you should be by the end of this article.

This infographic was put together with one of Easelly’s free infographic templates, and we’ve added the stats below in text form in case the image above isn’t working for you.

TikTok has been downloaded more than 2 billion times and has 800 Million active users worldwide – more than Twitter, Pinterest and Snapchat.

In Q1 2020 TikTok generated the most downloads in a quarter for any app ever (over 315 million)

More than 1 billion videos are viewed every day

41% of TikTok users are aged between 16 and 24 – This is the age group that streams the most music.

Roughly a third of the U.S. population is on TikTok

TikTok has the highest engagement rate of the most popular social media platforms – Users on TikTok are far more likely to engage with your content than on other social platforms

Over $456 million have been spent buying coins on TikTok – An in app currency paid for with real money where fans can buy gifts for their favourite creators, or tip to say thank you.

Tiktok is rapidly expanding it’s ‘shop now’ feature, allowing creators to link to products directly from the app – This can be a great way to link through to merchandise and give fans the option to buy

As you can see, TikTok has the ideal user base and the tools to reach them well. If that’s not convinced you to download TikTok and add it to your social media promotion strategy I don’t know what will.
